Baby Carrier
A baby carrier is a must for convenience and comfort. When I was registering, I thought the Bjorn was the only option.
It's not; there are more kinds than I can count. For a wonderful overview on carriers from all over the world,
check out www.peppermint.com.
I recommend getting at least two for variety.
In addition to my Bjorn, I tried the Allo Baby
from New Zealand.
I found it more comfortable than the Bjorn, but with the same limitations. Your baby outgrows it too quickly and it
can only be used on your front, which can hurt your back as your baby gets heavier.
I recommend choosing carriers with multiple positions instead.
I tried an Ella Roo Wrap
and loved it [top photo]. These are basically long
scarves made to the correct proportions
for tying your baby in comfortable carrying positions. They are not only very fashionable but also can be folded
small to fit in your diaper bag and can double as a blanket or burp cloth as needed. They can also be used
through toddlerhood as long as your baby is cooperative.
I also tried a couple of backpacks by Deuter. The best frame pack is the
Deuter Kid Comfort II
. If you hike or
go on longer trips it is invaluable. We started using ours even before our son could sit alone, we just inserted a neck pillow in
front of him as a head rest [middle photo].
Since I liked my Kid Comfort II so much, I also got a Kanga Kid [bottom photo].
I get tons of compliments everywhere I go. It's
like a normal backpack, just with a kid compartment. I use it in the airport and around town. It's a better fit for a smaller person like me.
If I was starting over, I would get only my Ella Roo Wrap and the Kanga Kid.
